A Surprise Gift!

A few days ago one of my best friends from Germany (Felix) came to visit and brought me this amazing surprise gift. We started drawing on this piece of cardboard when we used to be room mates working together on a short film about 8 years ago. By the time we were moving on separate ways this piece was only 60% done. There was still a lot of empty space to cover. I wanted to take it with me but Felix told me that he wants to finish it cause most of the drawings were mine and he wanted to contribute more to it. My good friend and mentor Stephan also contributed with a few drawings. Years went by and I totally forgot about this piece and now he brought it back to me "finished"!!! It felt like opening a time capsule. I love it!

 Thanks Felix!

Penguins of Madagascar Trailer

I'm happy to announce that a trailer of the movie I've been working on for the past two and a half years was released today. "Penguins of Madagascar" This is a show where I had/have the opportunity to do various things from color keys and prop designs to 3D set design, modeling, animated visualizations of effects and transformations, motion graphics and so on! I grew a lot artistically but also technically and I'm incredibly grateful. I still have a few months to go before it's going to be released on November 26th this year! It's going to be a hilarious, action packed movie so stay tuned!

You can actually see some work I did in this trailer. I created the head up display in the very first shot and I designed and animated all the motion graphics you see in the background when skipper is eating the Cheezy Dibbles. Yay!

Enjoy the trailer!

It was awesome to see one of my iPad paintings featured at the Apple Keynote yesterday. This is the second time I made it on the screen at WWDC! Yay!

Virtual Plein Air painting

A fellow artist had a great idea to open a Facebook group called "Virtual Plein Air Painting". Basically you do a painting based on Google street view. When you post the image you provide the map link too. It's not the same as real plein air but it's still good practice and a lot of fun! Here are my first two pieces. I didn't spent much time on these.

Brush set for download

Hey there! Thought I'd share the brushes I use the most. I don't like long brush lists when it's only a hand full of brushes that I always come back to. So here you go.
Click here to download. I posted a link in the tutorials section too.
